Claude-Françoise of Lorraine 1612-1648

Born into an illustrious House of Lorraine, she was the younger daughter of Henry II, Duke of Lorraine, and his wife, Princess Margherita Gonzaga. Her elder sister was Nicole, Duchess of Lorraine. Claude Françoise died in Vienna, aged 35, having given birth to twins, Marie Anne and Anne Marie. She was buried at the Church of Saint-François-des-Cordeliers, Nancy, Lorraine.

Maria Anna Elisa Bonaparte Baciocchi Levoy (French: Marie Anne Elisa Bonaparte; 3 January 1777 – 7 August 1820), better known as Elisa Bonaparte, was an imperial French princess and sister of Napoleon Bonaparte. She was Princess of Lucca and Piombino (1805-1814), Grand Duchess of Tuscany (1809-1814) and Countess of Compignano by appointment of her brother.

Medal for Tonkin – Land Forces  – Médaille du Tonkin – Armée de Terre 1885 

Circular silver medal with laterally-pierced barrel-shaped (belière à l’olive) suspension; the face with a helmeted female head representing the French Republic, inscribed ‘REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE’, signed ‘DANIEL DUPUIS’ (for the great French medallist and sculptor Jean-Baptiste Daniel-Dupuis 1849-1899), all within a circular laurel wreath; the reverse inscribed with the battles ‘SONTAY, BAC-NINH, FOU-TCHEOU, FORMOSE, TUYEN-QUAN, PESCADORES’ encircled by the inscription ‘TONKIN CHINE ANNAM 1883-1885’ within a laurel wreath, with Paris Mint cornucopia silver assay mark;  on correct ribbon with original pin 

The medal was instituted on 6 September 1885 for the soldiers of the Expeditionary Corps led by General Millot who took part in the operations in Tonkin (now Vietnam), China and Annam during the years 1883 to 1885 that terminated with the Treaty of Tien-Tsing with China. These troops included elements of the Foreign Legion, Marine Infantry Regiments, Algerian Tirailleurs, Zouaves, Spahis and African Chasseurs.

Vincent Voiture, French Mannerist and Baroque Précieuses poet and writer of prose, was the son of a rich wine merchant of Amiens. He was introduced by a schoolfellow, the count Claude d’Avaux, to Gaston, Duke of Orléans, and accompanied him to Brussels and Lorraine on diplomatic missions

Nicolas de Catinat 1637-1712

The son of a magistrate, Catinat was born in Paris . He entered the Gardes Françaises at an early age and distinguished himself at the Siege of Lille in 1667.He became a brigadier ten years later, maréchal de camp in 1680, and lieutenant-general 1688. He served with great credit in the campaigns of 1676–1678 in Flanders during the Franco-Dutch War, and was later employed in the persecution of the Vaudois in 1686. After taking part in the Siege of Philippsburg at the opening of the Nine Years War, he was appointed to command the French troops in the south-eastern theatre of war. In 1691 he crossed into the County of Nice, and captured the towns Nice and Villefranche.
