Ferdinand Charles, Archduke of Austria 1628-1662

Archduke of Further Austria, including Tyrol, from 1646 to 1662. As the son of Archduke Leopold V and Claudia de’ Medici, he succeeded his father upon the latter’s death in 1632, under his mother’s regency. He took over his mother’s governatorial duties when he came of age in 1646.

Jules Mascaron 1634–1703

Jules Mascaron was a popular French preacher. He was born in Marseille as the son of a barrister at Aix-en-Provence. He entered the Oratory of Jesus early and became reputed as a preacher. Paris confirmed the judgment of the provinces; in 1666 he was asked to preach before the court and became a favourite of Louis XIV, who said that his eloquence was one of the few things that never grew old.

Henry II, known as “the Good”, was Duke of Lorraine from 1608 until his death. Leaving no sons, both of his daughters became Duchesses of Lorraine by marriage. He was a brother-in-law of Henry IV of France.
