Clemens Wenzel, Archbishop of Trier 1739-1812


Clemens Wenceslaus of Saxony was a Saxon prince from the House of Wettin and the Archbishop-Elector of Trier from 1768 until 1803, the Prince-Bishop of Freising from 1763 until 1768, the Prince-Bishop of Regensburg from 1763 until 1768, and the Prince-Bishop of Augsburg from 1768 until 1812.

Thomas Larkham or Larcome 1602–1669

 

He was born at Lyme Regis, Dorset, in 1602, matriculated at Trinity College, Cambridge in 1619, and proceeded B.A. from Trinity Hall in 1622, and M.A. 1626. In 1622 he was living at Shobrooke, near Crediton, where he married. He was instituted vicar of Northam, near Bideford, in 1626, where his puritan views brought him into trouble. A petition against him was delivered about 1639, and he was proceeded against in the Consistory Court at Exeter. In 1640 Larkham left with his family for New England, going first to Massachusetts, but moved on to Dover called also then Northam.

Rinaldo d’Este 1618-1672

Cardinal Rinaldo d’Este was born in 1618, the son of Alfonso III d’Este, Duke of Modena and Isabella of Savoy. He was the brother of Francesco d’Este who succeeded his father as Duke of Modena.. He was elected Bishop of Reggio Emilia in December 1650 and participated in the Papal conclave of 1655 which elected Pope Alexander VII, the conclave of 1667, which elected Pope Clement IX and the conclave of 1669–1670, which elected Pope Clement X. On 24 August 1671 he opted for the order of bishops and was appointed Cardinal-Bishop of Palestrina.

Benjamin Hoadly (14 November 1676 – 17 April 1761) was an English clergyman, who was successively Bishop of Bangor, of Hereford, of Salisbury, and finally of Winchester. He is best known as the initiator of the Bangorian Controversy.

William Warham 1450?-1532 Archbishop of Canterbury

An influential churchman and statesman, Warham was appointed Bishop of London in 1502 and Archbishop of Canterbury and Lord Chancellor in 1504, crowning Henry VIII in 1509. Though he clashed with Wolsey as the latter’s power and authority increased, the two men worked together on the King’s divorce.
