The House of Keglević or Keglevich is a Croatian noble family originally from Northern Dalmatia, whose members were prominent public citizens and military officers. As experienced warriors, they actively participated in the Croatian–Ottoman and Ottoman–Hungarian wars, as well as were patrons of the arts and holders of the rights of patronage over churches and parishes.

Ferdinand was born in Florence, Tuscany, into the House of Habsburg-Lorraine. He was the second son of Leopold, then Grand-Duke of Tuscany, and his wife, Infanta Maria Luisa of Spain. Being the Grand Duchy a secundogeniture, when his father was elected Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, Ferdinand succeeded him as Grand Duke of Tuscany, officially taking the office on 22 July 1790.

Distinguished himself in the Long Turkish War, at Székesfehérvár and Esztergom. At the end of the war he was appointed field marshal. On 14 June 1610 he was made an Imperial Count. He was later sent on diplomatic missions to the Principality of Transylvania and the Sublime Porte. In 1625 he became the first grand master of the short-lived order of knighthood Militia Christiana, of which he was a founder. He died in Vienna on 7 May 1636.
